Mitos Magsaysay joins PDP-Laban

June 21, 2012 by bicolmail in Top Stories

MANILA — Zambales Rep. Mitos Magsaysay has joined Vice President Jejomar Binay’s PDP-Laban party and said that joining forces is a perfect opportunity to advance pro-poor and people centered programs which lie at the core of their priority programs.

“I am very thankful for this opportunity to join the PDP-Laban party and most especially this chance offered to me by Vice President Jejomar Binay to advance the pro poor programs that I have been pushing throughout my legislative career as representative of the 1st district of Zambales,” she said.

“ The PDP-Laban has always been pushing reforms in government with its members crafting legislations, ordinances and policies that favor those who are oppressed, lending a voice to those who need to be heard and offering a hand to those who are in dire need of it. Perhaps because this is due to the fact that leaders united under this banner have also experienced poverty, or witnessed it, experienced oppression and injustice at some point in their lives leading to an empathy with the sector of society that has often been overlooked by the government,” she added.

Magsaysay said that the party’s platform of government echoes her good governance thrusts and advocacies, especially in terms of pushing rights to health care, education, and information and expressed hope that their combination will further strengthen the drive to advance reforms in government.

“As a legislator, my colleagues are all aware that I am a team player who pushes for people-centered measures and not just pieces of legislation that would get my name in the papers. That is why chief among the bills that I support are the Freedom of Information which allows not only the media but regular citizens to view public documents to check if their officials are serving them well and are entering into transactions that are legitimate and valid, sans corruption and anomaly. Another is the move review the books of oil companies and revamp the outdated premises of the Oil Deregulation Law which empowers oil companies to impose price hikes on their petroleum products without need of government permission. This is the type of law that was crafted during a different time and the situation no longer applies,” she added.

“There are many ills in society that we still need to address and solutions will not appear overnight. But with a united stand against the nation’s primary problems and with a sincere commitment to the cause of putting them to rest, of course with the support of a strong party that echoes my thrusts in good governance, I grow more confident in the hope that awaits this nation to be truly united in spirit and in the name of development,” she concluded.

  • Theanna: I feel sad for young Kisha and her pretty picture, spoiled by a tirade of "the political monstrosity obtaining (sic) in our country..." And it's you, (writer with no name) not her, who "virtually hurled a challenge..." I'm not a professional photographer but I know a lot about it. If this was supposed to be a sunset, where is the sun? If you called it "cogon grass with flowers" that would have been more appropriate. If the picture was enhanced, it was overdone and unrealistic. • Theanna: Thanks Judge for that timely and alarming info on the country's postal service. I thought that by now, things are much better than when I was there. May I add a few cents worth of fond remembrance of the late fabulous Fr. James Reuter, SJ? I never met him but my brothers and male relatives were all Ateneans and Fr.Reuter's name was often mentioned at our house. When I heard that Roxanne of Cyranno de Bergerac was being played by one of the handsomest guys in school, I had to see it. Also, my brother told us about the time our father and he met him on Ateneo Ave. After exchanging greetings, he asked father, " Is he your eldest son?" My father replied, "Oh no, my eldest son is a daughter." The whole family burst into tearful laughter. View Post

  • Theanna: Thanks for the above concerns. I thought I was the only one who sensed something odd, since I read the news printed under the Business section on Nov.15. I posted a comment, after much deliberation, on Nov. 17 re the offensive word in the headline. My simple arithmetic doesn't add up to the expected results of this huge 3billion peso project. I feel like the child in Hans Christian Andersen's story of "The Emperor's New Clothes". I can't figure out how the people there can generate 100 tons of garbage a day. View Post
