2 missing Lagonoy fishermen recovered safe in Babuyan, Cagayan
PILI, Camarines Sur – Two fishermen from barangay Mapid, Lagonoy who have been missing since going out to sea last March 31 were sighted adrift and rescued some five kilometers from the shore of Babuyan Claro, an island barangay of Calayan town in Cagayan.
This was disclosed by Gov. LRay Villafuerte from a report of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) headed by Lucena N. Bermeo who coordinated efforts to locate and rescue the missing fishermen.
Reported safe and sound, the two fishermen, 30-year -old Jerry Broncano and 60-year-old Aurelio Anasco, have drifted or were blown a considerable distance by moonsoon winds in the three-week period since they embarked. Calayan, a northern coastal town of Cagayan is about 750 kilometers as the crow flies from Camarines Sur, but entails over 800 kilometers of travel either by sea or overland.
According to the report, the two fishermen persisted on putting out to sea to fish from their 16-horsepower motorized banca despite warnings of inclement weather due to low pressure in the area.
Three days thence, on June 3, other fisherfolks reported the duo have not returned from their fishing sortie. They were officially declared missing and the PDRRMO launched appropriate search and rescue efforts in coordination with other disaster offices.
It was past noon of June 21, three weeks after the two fishermen were last seen, that the PDRRMO received a phone call from the Philippine Coast Guard in the province informing them the missing fishermen were sighted and rescued offshore Babuyan Claro in Cagayan.
Other details were sketchy because of weak communication signal in the area which have been experiencing foul weather up to the present, but the PDRRMO was able to contact Babuyan Claro tribal chieftain Crusaldo Rosales and barangay chairman Alberto Dican who assured the rescued fishermen were in relatively sound condition in the custody of the latter.
Arrangements are being made to transport Broncano and Anasco back to CamSur with the assistance of the Office of Civil Defense of Regions 2 and 5. They will be transported to the mainland town of San Vicente of Cagayan, escorted by OCD 2 to Tuguegarao, proceed to Manila and finally back to CamSur as soon as the weather in the north normalize enough to allow sea and overland travel.
Gov. Villafuerte has directed the PDRRMO to exert utmost effort to facilitate the return of the two fishermen back to Mapid, Lagonoy and extend them and their families all appropriate assistances, even as he enjoins other fishermen to abide with weather warnings from the authorities to avoid the recurrence of this kind of mishap at sea. 2 missing Lagonoy fishermen recovered safe in Babuyan, Cagayan: I beg to disagree on this article, too much sensationalism has been made. Sabagay ika na man nagsabi na ” Other details were sketchy because of weak communication signal in the area which have been experiencing foul weather up to the present” kaya siguro sala ang article mo. Personal mo ba sinda nakaulay? News or showbiz reporter ka ba? Stupid!
Tada na tabi ning raya mga tawo duman dahil kadakul na nawara dahil sa arog kaiyan na insidente pero mayo man naginibo local government. Kamag-anak mi pirang taon na nakalipas pero dai na nahanap.
