ENDANGERED TURTLE. A fully-grown sea turtle of the endangered
Olive Ridley specie (left photo), believed to have migrated here
from Australia, was captured by a fisherman along the coast of
Cabusao early morning of Wednesday, April 20. After the specimen
was measured (curve carapace 22 inches long and 21.5 inches wide)
and tagged (Serial No. P21727), Governor LRay Villafuerte
immediately directed its release by members of Bantay Dagat and
902nd Squadron of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary, under
supervision of conservation consultant Deo Princesa (right,
photo). The sea turtle was released at 1:30 p.m. the same day at
the coastal waters of the Marine Sanctuary at Caranan, Pasacao and
fisherman Vicente Dasigan (left, left photo) of Sabang, Calabanga,
who immediately turned over the specimen to the authorities,
received a P2,000 reward for his conservation consciousness from
Gov. Villafuerte.
