UNC stude bags oratorical contest;

Sabang HS girl tops poster-making

A HIGH school student from the University of Nueva Caceres bagged the top prize in the inter-secondary school oratorical contest (water district level) held last Tuesday, Nov. 29, at the Naga City Youth Center here.

Delivering the theme, “Water for You and Me: How Far Can We Go?” Honesto M. Juego, Jr., bested four other speakers from different secondary schools in Naga City in the Metropolitan Naga Water District (MNWD)-sponsored public speaking contest.

Ven Julio R. Requejo of the Ateneo de Naga University was adjudged second best speaker and Tin-Tin A. Beldua, third.

Juego will represent Bicol in the 11th Philippine Association of Water Districts (PAWD) national oratorical contest to be held in Iloilo City on Jan. 18, 2006.

The contest is aimed at promoting general awareness and advocacy for environmental protection, most particularly related to the proper and efficient use of water for the benefit of the coming generations, MNWD Director Socorro B. Felix said.

Meanwhile, Ma. Corazon T. Hallare of Sabang National High School took away the first prize in the MNWD poster-making contest, while Gizelle Karen L. Baluso of the University of Nueva Caceres and Jeffrey A. Baran of Cararayan High School grabbed the second and third prizes, respectively.

Bicol Mail editor Joe Perez chaired the panel of judges in the oratorical contest, with Emma Lirag of the Provincial Environment and Resources Office (PENRO), and Meriam Z. Tandog of the Divison of City Schools as members.
