Saulon receives outstanding student award
By Armin A. Fullante

Butch O. Saulon, a BSE-Summa Cum Laude graduate of the University of Nueva Caceres, received another national award when he was chosen one of the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP) for 2005. Her Excellency, Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, personally conferred the honors during the 2005 Ten Outstanding of the Philippines Awarding Ceremonies last July 1, 2005 at the Rizal Hall, Malacañang Palace. Earlier, Saulon was also a recipient of the 2005 Mayoral Recognition Award given by the Naga City government last June 17, 2005. In December 2004, he was Rank 1 in the Search for Jose Rizal Model Students of the Philippines. He was also a delegate to the 6th Ayala Young Leaders Congress in February 2004.

The Search for the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines is a rigorous selection process in the school, regional and national levels. The student nominees are evaluated based on the following criteria: superior academic performance; responsible leadership and/or active participation in worthwhile extra-curricular activities; a deep sense of community awareness and involvement; personal values anchored on a living faith in God; sensitivity towards the needs of others and a sincere determination to help; firm moral conviction and integrity; a pleasing personality and ability to express oneself.

The annual search for the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines was founded to recognize students who can be held as role models for others; students who exemplify academic excellence, exemplary leadership, good moral values, and determination to serve.

Launched in 1961, the TOSP is a project of the RFM Foundation, the Commission on Higher Education, the RFM Corporation and in cooperation with the National book Store and the Rotary Club of Makati Central. From its beginnings, TOSP has produced outstanding contributions in the fields of government, bNagueño FilAm couple here for visitusiness, academe, church and civil society.
