Iriga villagers warn action vs jueteng boys

IRIGA CITY – Residents of a village here want local authorities to drive away strangers they called as “bad guys,” who have been reportedly occupying an apartment in their area since last month.

Reports reaching the Bicol Mail disclosed that the group of males with less than 20 members were suspected to be involved in the operation of jueteng in the 4th district of Camarines Sur, particularly in Iriga-Buhi area.

A concerned resident, who asked not to be identified told the Bicol Mail that the suspicious-looking men have been renting a 2-storey apartment, allegedly owned by one Ted Adriano along Magnolia St., in Barangay San Roque.

The place is approximately less than a kilometer away from the city hall, police headquarters and about 200 to 300 meters away from the private school and district office of a prominent politician here.

Reports have it that the men’s point of origin was San Pablo City. They initially rented an apartment in adjoining barangay San Juan, then later on, transferred to Adriano’s place for unknown reason.

Allegedly headed by a table manager or maintainer, the group manages jueteng operations in Iriga-Buhi area, which is yielding an average of P .3 million daily in bet collection, according to report.

The reports further disclosed that the jueteng boys use two vehicles when conducting daily draws in Barangay Santiago. One vehicle is a passenger jeepney with Plate Number DDJ-180 and a dirty white KIA supersaloon, bearing plate number XCS-209.

The villagers warned that if local authorities would ignore their request, they will be compelled to take action to protect their children from the ill-effects of the illegal numbers game.
