The Old vs the New Guards
“They sure have got the INTENT but they don’t have the CAPABILITY
to launch a Coup d’etat”: AFP Chief Gen. Gene Senga as he
confirmed rumors that, indeed, disgruntled officers were plotting
a coup against Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
That a Coup d’etat is indeed in the offing and will push through
is now almost a certainty, owing to the fact that several sectors:
the Erap/Lacson camps, the Ramos/Cory camps, the Honasan/Magdalo
camps, and the Legitimate Opposition/FPJ camps have now seemingly
formed a ‘tactical alliance’ just to really make sure P.G.M.A. is
out of the Palace in not more than 100 days!
That they have the needed funding is now beyond doubt. The needed
numbers can easily come about just as soon as the money is spread
out. That they will succeed is almost certain. But that they will
last long enough to be able to institute all the needed changes is
a BIG QUESTION MARK!
Perhaps meant to be able to put in place a HOLD OVER Government to
make sure that the 2007 elections are held, and a smooth
transition from a Presidential to a Parliamentary form of
governance takes place, this Coup, most probably has the blessing
of the ‘Gods’. The only BIG PROBLEM now is how to see to it that
the least BLOOD is spilled on the streets or, if it can still be
done, a bloodless Coup takes place!
There is no doubt that some former Military Bigwigs have been
going the rounds trying to convince our sitting Generals to give
up the fight even before the guns are drawn! To spill the blood of
fellow Filipinos is indeed something which these Coup plotters
just might be trying to avoid, at all costs! But since there will
always be 2 sides in a conflict, there just might never be a true
resolution UNLESS blood flows freely and lives are sacrificed, as
a form of CATHARSIS, in return for some higher utopian ideals
bordering on the unquantifiable, long aborted, Hegelian Dialectic!
Should blood indeed flow and lives get irreparably lost in the
altar of someone’s indomitable GREED, cosmetically treated to look
like an immediate need for CHANGE, things will never be the same,
and the END will really have to justify the means! This is really
going to be something that not even a THOUSAND PUSH-UPS will be
able to atone for! Sosmaryosep! Can you ever imagine your death or
that of your loved ones being paid for by just a thousand
push-ups? Give me a break! If ever a Coup is launched, these
Military Adventurists should be very sure that they will be doing
it for their IDEALS and NOT FOR THE MILLIONS that might be dangled
over them by the unscrupulous Politicos out to make a killing amid
all the unpredictable chaos and anarchy that will prevail, until
the Palace is won over or the conflict is resolved, within a time
frame which should not last more than a week, at the most, in
order to preserve the Filipino Patrimony, or whatever will be left
of it, after all hell brakes lose!
The YOUNG Officers with their high ideals cannot be blamed for
being disgusted with the way their Military Establishment has been
run like a milking cow by their more Senior Officers! The recent
spate of accusations and convictions of military men really makes
us wonder if the Philippine Military Academy is doing its job well
in molding men and women of intelligence and integrity into true
Officers and Gentlemen or into Corrupt Carpetbaggers with no other
aim but to make millions and retire in such Luxury that might even
put Heaven to shame!
Even if P.G.M.A. has really been so stubborn, there really aren’t
enough good reasons to take her out amidst a pool of blood! In a
civil society run by laws things don’t have to work that way. The
barrel of the gun must only be fired in PHYSICAL DEFENSE of one’s
Country and Countrymen. It must never be fired in an OFFENSIVE
manner which will cause harm and IRREPARABLE DAMAGE to everyone
concerned! The arrival in Sulu of U.S. Troops for Exercise
Balikatan (BK) 2006 just MIGHT be meant to be a deterrent to make
everyone think THRICE before really aiming their antiquated
weapons at each other and getting ready to rumble! Watching the
Pacman T.K.O. El Terrible in the 10th is a much better and
exciting prospect than monitoring Filipinos kill their fellow
Filipinos in living color and in the privacy of our cozy little
bedrooms!
