Acceptance
At first I was tempted to write about all of my Hopes,
Expectations, and Resolutions for this New Year, but then,
realizing that most of these just don’t materialize anyway, I now
would rather write about the things which my 55 years on this Good
Earth have, finally, taught me to ACCEPT.
I can still clearly remember the ‘FEELING’, every time I
graduated, finally, from High School, College, and Medical School.
The exhilaration and the ‘Superhero feeling’ of wanting to do a
lot of things simultaneously! It was as if there was absolutely
nothing in the world that I couldn’t accomplish! The whole wide
world was my basketball court and I was the Michael Jordan on top
of it all! But then as time went by I came to realize that I was
just an infinitesimal entity in God’s Universe. An ant perched on
top of an elephant! So just like that my dream world went puff!
And I just had to content myself with the four corners of our
bedroom, bathroom, dining room, and most especially my clinic, day
in and day out, 365 days a year! Sosmaryosep! Were it not for the
‘friends’ I’ve met in the books that I’ve read through all these
years, and the friends I met in and out of all the schools I’ve
‘toured’ from my happy-go-lucky to my finally serious years, I
wouldn’t have been able to face-up to Life and all its unavoidable
vicissitudes! Now I have come to that stage in Life when I have
learned to ACCEPT people, places, things, and events, as they are,
as they come and go, and as they happen. I have learned to accept
that:
1) We are NOT PERFECT.
2) People don’t always say what they mean or mean what they say.
3) Not everyone will always be there for you (except, perhaps,
your Family) and that Life is not always ABOUT YOU.
4) We should really learn to stand ON OUR OWN and take care of Mr.
or Ms. No. 1: you and me!
5) Much of How we look at ourselves and others is a result of
everything that we have experienced from our parents, friends, and
others since birth and so let’s try to go through all the junk
we’ve been fed about how we should behave, look, weigh, do for a
living, marry, or even how much we should earn or what we owe our
parents, family, and friends!
6) In order to succeed we need Direction, Discipline, and
Perseverance, and that no one can do it ALL ALONE, so it’s really
ok to ask for help whenever the need arises.
7) Evil in its most PRIMAL state resides in our own EGOS. Thus
there really is a pressing need to deal with it and learn that
Negative Feelings: Anger, ENVY, and Resentment must be understood
and redirected, or they will SUFFOCATE us and poison everything
that surrounds us: our family, friends, and loved ones.
8) There is so much need to learn to ADMIT when we are wrong and
build BRIDGES instead of walls!
9) Judging and pointing a finger at others is counterproductive
and EVEN DESTRUCTIVE, hence the need to accept people as they are
and to overlook all their shortcomings, just as we would like to
be forgiven ourselves for whatever shortcomings me most definitely
also have!
10) More often than not, we get in Life what we BELIEVE WE DESERVE
and anything worth achieving is worth WORKING FOR and finally,
11) WISHING for something to happen is totally different than
working toward making it happen!
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!
