Dishonored Plaza Rizal
One of the good things about the Bicol Mail on line is having the
ability to browse the pictures at your People & Events section.
Looking at some beautiful pictures, one can transmigrate itself
into the warmth of Bicolandia.
I was dismayed to see a picture of Plaza Rizal in the heart of
Naga “napalibotan nin mga paratinda”. Dismay is perhaps a milder
word, disgusting; desecration and revulsion are the right words to
describe such contempt demonstrated “again” by the administration
happily residing in the Capitolio can provencia can Camarines Sur.
I have fun memories of the Plaza Rizal during my childhood years
in Naga. I saw that little piece of land in the middle of
commercial activity as a dwelling for tranquility. There, I saw as
a child the image of our hero Dr. Jose Rizal, before I even
started reading his writings and believing in his idealism. There,
I saw and heard “kalamay” discoursed like Jeremiah and sometimes
like Plato served his wisdom. There, I saw tall and majestic tree
giving its cool shade and beauty to the people of Naga.
I always like the monument of Dr. Jose Rizal at the Plaza. Looking
at his monument, one feels the majesty and the love of the people
who built the monument in his honor. A monument is like a home to
the one who passed away which we constantly venerate Respect grabs
my spirit whenever I see a monument. It’s like a church where God
resides and one can commune in isolation or happily with a group.
Bikolanos should have no problem picturing Jesus when he kicked
the merchants out of the temple.
All Bikolanos should write the governor of Camarines Sur that what
he is doing is desecrating a sacred place. There is no better time
than to start this in January 2006 and perhaps 365 days
constantly, if he chooses not to relent. There is no amount of
money that can pay for his sins.
