ADNU counselor elected to PACERS Board

Dr. Rufino Llagas Ramos III, a full-time counselor of the College Guidance Center, was elected as one of the board members of the prestigious Philippine Association for Counselor Education, Research, and Supervision (PACERS) during the celebration of its 30th foundation and Annual Convention at the Manila Pavilion Hotel on February 20-22, 2006. Dr. Ramos made history by becoming the very first from Ateneo de Naga University to hold the said position.

In this year’s PACERS annual convention, Dr. Ramos also presented two of his scientific papers. During the "Panel Discussion on Doing Research to Enhance the Counseling Practice," he read his paper entitled, "The Significance of Counseling Outcome Research in the Promotion of Professional Practice.” In the Concurrent Paper Presentations, he presented his research entitled “Case Study of Happy Filipino Adolescents.” This study is a part of a bigger research he conducted on happiness or subjective well-being among Filipino adolescents.

PACERS was established on March 6, 1976 in response to the need to gather together counselor-educators and researchers committed to the continual development of counseling practices in the Philippines. The mission of PACERS is to take the lead in safeguarding the concept of counseling and its practice in the Philippines through counselor education, counseling research, and counselor supervision. More specifically, as a professional organization, PACERS envisions to develop professionally trained practicing counselors who are efficient and effective agents of development of counselees and supervisees; counselors who are able to contribute to building new knowledge that has theoretical and practical significance to the profession; counselors whose practice is guided by ethical standards of the profession; and counselor education programs that sufficiently address the professional and personal development of their trainees.

Dr. Ramos will be serving with the PACERS Board for the next two years alongside Dr. Julian R. Montano (DLSU – Dasmariñas), Dr. Susan Almeda-Estanislao (DLSU – Manila), Ms. Chery A. Juliano (DLS Zobel School), Fr. Bernardo R. Collera, SVD (Christ the King Seminary), Dr. Benedicta O. Lascano (UP, Diliman), Dr. Ma. Socorro M. Eala (DLS College of St. Benilde), Ms. Ma. Liza D. Suarez (DLSU – Manila), and Fr. Francisco R. Bustamante, S.J. (Ateneo de Zamboanga University).

Aside from his full-time work at the College Guidance Center, Dr. Ramos is also a part-time counselor at the Center for Psychological Services and an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology and Graduate School. Recently, he completed his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology major in Clinical Counseling at De La Salle University – Manila where he graduated with High Distinction and received the Gold Medal for Outstanding Graduate Dissertation. He finished his M.A and B.S. degrees in Psychology from the Ateneo de Naga University.
