Naga in next 25 years
Naga City being strategically centered is always the business
capital of Bicol region. It is heart-warming to learn that Naga’s
business is growing and Mayor Robredo’s challenge to the business
community is timely. One can easily imagine Naga City in the next
twenty-five years: high rise buildings, busy highways and roads,
all the glitters of a vibrant city. This business growth will be
attractive to new people looking for opportunities. However, with
this modernization and growth, comes with the modern problems of a
city: pollution, expensive real estate, inadequate sewage systems,
water shortage, crimes and relentless traffic congestion.
Can Metro Naga handle over a million people with the present
structure?
Is the sewage systems (if there is such a thing in Naga), capable
of handling millions cubic meters of waste? Is the present water
delivery system capable of delivering clean and potable water? Are
there enough public parks around Naga for the citizens to enjoy?
What will happen to the Naga River? Will it become like Pasig
River where it’s polluted, foul and devoid of marine life?
Mayor Robredo and the officials of the City of Naga should start
creating a Master Plan for Metro Naga. They should start planning
for Naga being a vibrant, liveable and truly the heart of
Bicolandia.
Nonetheless, the citizens of Naga who will carry the burden of
taxation must be involved in the decision making process. If Mayor
Robredo and the public officials of Naga fail to take the lead
now, Naga will become just like the unplanned Manila.
