Happy over BM online
It’s only now that I discovered you have an online edition. Your
archives show you’ve had it since 2004. Sayang! I’d have visited
you since then. You see, we Filipinos here are hungry for news
from home.
Every day I open the Internet issues of the Manila newspapers and
would have enjoyed the news more if I could access local
happenings in Naga and the Bicol region.
Now I’ll have the Bicol Mail as a source, and happy about it
because I once wrote a column (“Eyeballing Around”) for this
prestigious newspaper. That was in the years before the 1972
martial law, when Vince Aureus was the pjblisher-editor (whose
death I learned from a notice in Francis Nacianceno’s “Oragon”
newsletter some years back).
Now I live in sedentary retirement at age 77 in Los Angeles,
California.
From your March 16 issue, I read with pleasure Atty. Henry
Briguera’s column article “Of freedom and power” and his thoughts
appurtenant thereof. Reminded me of our times together at the UNC
campus press, Henry as the editor of the collegiate newspaper and
me as the publications director and faculty adviser.
His article made sad mention of some of my contemporaries now gone
— Louie General, Fred Tria, Sitong Palmiano, Ely Compuesto, Mon
Brilliantes. They were once the stalwarts of our local media.
From now on I’ll be a constant reader of the Bicol Mail Online.
More power to you.
