UNCean wins 2nd place in NSPC ‘06

Joseph Edwin L. Bascuña, third year student of the University of Nueva Ceceres (UNC), brought honor to the Bicol region, to Naga City, and to his school when he won second place in News Writing (English) during the recently concluded National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) 2006 held last February 20-24 at Kalibo, Aklan.

Bascuña, after winning first and second place in the division and regional levels respectively, qualified and managed to win in the said national event.

He was the only winner from the Bicol region and Naga City division in the secondary level during the awarding ceremonies for individual contests held February 23 at the Aklan Catholic College Gymnasium.

Bascuña, News Editor of Trailblazer, the official high school publication of UNC, attended the five-day conference together with co-staffer and qualifier Paul John F. Barrosa, who contended in News Writing (Filipino), and coach, Rosita SB. Virtus, Trailblazer adviser.

The said event was participated in by over 1,000 student writers coming from different public and private schools from all over the country.

The NSPC 2006 was geared by the theme “Responsible and Quality Campus Journalism: Gearing Up to the Challenges of the Schools First Initiative.”
