It’s one of a kind competition on May 14 for pet dogs and owners. The more the pet dog’s looks resemble the owner or the other way around, the better the chances of winning, according to the provincial agriculture officer here.
“Either the dog owner closely looks like his pet dog, or the pet dog closely looks like the owner,” says Dr. Jose H. Losa, Jr., Albay provincial agriculture officer, revealed on the launching of the newest addition to Dog Fun Show the agriculture office sponsors.
Dubbed “The Dog Owner and Pet Dog Look-Alike Contest” this unique event is one of the new variety added on the celebration of the Magayon Festival,” Losa said.
The contest will be staged at Albay Astrodome starting at 9:00 in the morning will follow after the Eucharistic Celebration at Albay Cathedral, a holy mass in the formal opening of Albay Day.
Losa further explained that the dog-owner look-alike contest would pay attention to the details which include the contenders’ way of dressing-up, sporting hairstyle and other criteria and challenges that would test them of their semblance to each other.
“If the dog owner has a bulldog as a pet, a very good semblance is that the owner has a round face or maybe even bald and who can imitate the frowning face that a bulldog has,” he said.
He revealed that other events to look forward to are the awarding and presentation of the best-dressed dog and funniest dressed dog after completing two rounds of fashion shows of the dogs with their owners.
Losa added that the selection on the most adorable and lovable, the healthiest and the best-groomed dogs are to be bestowed with separate recognitions and that the dogs’ behavior and character are important elements to win the contest.
“The dog’s talent is going to take centerstage, too,” he mused.
He said the organizers will consider additional points for the most obedient, the best in talent and the funniest among the dog-contestants. Special awards shall also be presented to the dog who is adjudged as the Darling of the Crowd, the best Aspin or (asong pinoy) and the best puppy.
“This is once again a good venue to make us understand how to raise and take care of our pets and raise the awareness level of Albayanos about pet care; aside from having a great day of fun with their families and with the man’s best friend,” Losa said. (Ramon Carlo F. Fernandez III)
