Gubat, Sorsogon- The political party of Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is on a nationwide recruitment of members as it prepares for any political eventuality, a ranking party leader said.

        Rep. Jose Solis ( 2nd District-Sorsogon), one of the party originals and regional chairman for Bicol, said they are strengthening the party as a distinct organization from the Lakas party, presently the dominant party in the administration.

        Solis explained that KAMPI is the real and original political party of Pres. Arroyo, thus it has to be strengthened. “We could never tell what could happen,” he pointed out.

        KAMPI is presently in coalition with other political parties supportive of the Arroyo administration which include Lakas, Liberal party-Atienza wing and the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC).

        KAMPI, which was first organized in 1997 and was used to launch Arroyo’s candidacy, is presently headed by DILG Sec. Ronaldo Puno as president with former Cong. Igmidio Tanjuatco as secretary-general.

        Asked whether the move had anything to do with the people’s initiative to which Puno was being linked, Solis said the party was merely supporting the move to amend the constitution but not the one spearheading it.

        The solon had been talking with municipal mayors and other political leaders in the province and said that about eight to ten of them is set join the party together with a big number of vice mayors, municipal and provincial councilors and other political leaders.

        Once Sorsogon province has been organized, Solis said they would also organize other provinces in the region where seven of the fourteen congressmen belong to KAMPI.

        He said that KAMPI also wants to strengthen the party system especially the prevention of members jumping from one party to another.

        Political turncoatism had hounded so many political parties and this has to be stopped, Solis said. Bobby Q. Labalan
