DAET, Camarines Norte -- Despite the serious campaign of the regional PNP to stop the illegal numbers game in Bicol, the provincial command has yet to act on the widespread and seemingly unstoppable jueteng operations that have already dismayed religious groups here.

        P/Sr Supt. Noel Constantino, provincial director for the last five months, could hardly be interviewed when the subject is on the rampant jueteng.

        During the midterm elections, Daet Mayor Tito Sarion and Vice Mayor Serafin Raymundo, candidates then, criticized corruption in the local administration but when elected they forgot about their crusade after knowing that betting was even taking place in municipal offices.

        It shows in high places in town that said numbers game has silenced many local personages like Daet chief of police P/Supt Enrico Amor, Councilor Marlon Bandelaria and Boardmember Romeo Marmol.

        According to reports, a certain Jessie is the operator of jueteng in Bicol-speaking towns while a prominent official in Labo town takes care-off the Tagalog-speaking towns.

        In an interview with Congresswoman Liwayway Vinzons Chato, she denied having received payola from jueteng and pointed out that only Governor Jesus Typoco could stop the illegal numbers game in the province.
