CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur - The Army soldiers of 2nd Infantry Battalion discovered undetonated landmine believed planted by the New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Sitio Palapay, Jagusara, Juban, Sorsogon, according to Lt. Col. Dece M. Yabo, public information officer of the 9th Infantry Division here.
Yabo said the landmine comprising 300 meters ignition wire, 2 improvised anti-personnel Claymore mines, 2 improvised cylindrical mines and 13 Molotov bombs were part of the arsenal the NPA rebels could had used in the ambush last July 29 that killed 2 Army soldiers, 2 civilians and several others wounded.
He said the elements of Explosive and Ordinance Battalion of the Army was dispatched to the area to detonate and retrieve the explosive find.
“We were able to prevent further loss of innocent lives with the discovery of the landmines on August 2,” Yabo declared.
He added that the landmines could have harmed civilians who crossed the path where the explosives were discovered.
