DAET, Camarines Norte -- While Daet town is being pushed by local officials in Congress as the first city of the province, town folks expressed apprehension over the worsening prostitution and violations of the truck ban despite existing municipal ordinances regulating them.

        Once a national television episode featured the widespread prostitution in Daet prompting P/Supt. Enrico Amor to arrest the prostitutes, then nothing happened after that.

        The girls known locally as overnight contract workers or OCWs would ply their trade in groups of 10 starting at 8 p.m. along the stretch of Vinzons Avenue in front of Hongkong Trading.

        The ordinary price of the service ranges from P350 to Pl,000 with P50 discount for senior citizens, exclusive of a bonus from clients for satisfactory and excellent services.

        Meanwhile, the police laugh out complaints from buyers and sellers when complaints like missing wallets or nonpaying customers are filed with the police desk.

        On the other hand, motorists particularly tricycle drivers are irked by the truck ban which has yet to be enforced in the poblacion leading them to believe that they get the ire of traffic officers on minor infractions.

        Many of the owners of large trucks which are covered by the ban are Tsinoy businessmen some of whom are reportedly friends of Mayor Tito Sarion and who supported him in the last election.

        It will be recalled that Sarion boasted while still running as candidate for the mayoralty that he would work to convert Daet into a city. When he became the new mayor he removed former Mayor Elmer Panotes’ signage Daet ORGULLO KO TAGA DAET AKO in front of Daet Elevated plaza with his own, DAET ON THE GO.
