1 killed in sibling quarrel
DAET, Camarines Norte -- A sibling quarrel that ended in a hacking incident ended the life of a 41-year old bachelor here, inside a house in Samaka Village in Barangay Cambugan of this town last Sunday.
Police identified the victim as Andrew Calvario, who was hacked on the head by his younger brother Arnold, 31, during a heated altercation in their house on February 4.
Arnold voluntarily surrendered to the police after the hacking incident.
The suspect told the police that he was overwhelmed by anger and then grabbed a bolo, aimed and hit his brother on his head.
Arnold further told the police that Andrew rushed to their house to ask him why he meddled with his things which resulted in a heated exchange and the bloody death of his brother.
NPA guns down ex-Cafgu
LABO, Camarines Norte -- With two bullets lodged on the head, an ex-member of the Citizens’ Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) here died instantly after suspected members of the New People’s Army’s Sparrow Unit shot him several times late last week.
Police investigation showed that on February 2, Felix Sanchez, 44, an ex-Cafgu, was talking to several men outside his house in Sitio Naboongan, Brgy. Daguit of this town when three gunmen wearing bonnets came near him and immediately aimed at his head at close range then fired.
Police investigators recovered from the scene two empty slugs of .45 cal. gun.
Policeman dies in accident
DAET, Camarines Norte -- A 24-year old policeman was killed here Sunday when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a bicycle along Bagasbas Road late evening in Barangay Borabod of this town.
PO1 Francisco Luceña V was declared dead on arrival at Camarines Norte Provincial Hospital, where he was rushed for medical attention with fatal head injuries.
Luceña was driving his way to the police station after a patrol duty when suddenly a bicycle with two riders collided with his motorcycle at the dark side of the road near Excelsa Bar and Restaurant.
The policeman slammed on the cement road on impact while the bicycle riders were thrown out but suffered only bruises.
Pawnshop loses P0.5M
DAET, Camarines Norte -- A pawnshop owner here has discovered late a half-million peso worth of missing jewelry items from the shop display and vault after a company inventory was conducted.
Ronnel Aspe, 33, of Daraga, Albay, owner of Aspe Mama Pawnshop, told the police he lost five gold bracelets, nine gold necklaces, four gold pendants and five gold rings and several other assorted jewelry kept in the vault.
The pawnshop owner suspected the missing jewelry items were taken by his manager here for seven years that he said has not reported to work since the inventory.
