IRIGA CITY – “Reshuffle or transfer of assignment among Chiefs-of-Police (COP) is a normal in police service that we as subordinates must follow whether we like it or not.”
This was the reaction of Police Supt. Tomasito Clet of Iriga City Police Station (ICPS) following a report that he was included in the list of COPs ordered to be relieved from their present posts, in compliance with a policy being implemented by PNP hierarchy during election period.
Reports reaching Bicol Mail disclosed that Clet, along with other PNP Chiefs, in some municipalities such as: Magarao, Del Gallego and Libmanan have already stayed for more than two years now in their current posts, which was the basis of their imminent transfer or re-assignment.
As this developed, Mayor Madelaine Alfelor-Gazmen has been reported making moves to retain Clet which she already did twice by personally asking the PNP Regional Director to reconsider his decision.
“Supt. Clet’s transfer would be a great loss to our city, considering his efficient service and the fact that he already established a good chemistry with the city’s officialdom,” Alfelor-Gazmen was quoted as saying during recent interviews.
Told that he was being eyed to be the next Cop of Naga City PNP, Clet stressed that he would prefer to be given new assignment somewhere else, as he does not want to offend P/Supt. Benjamin Suratos, a former classmate in PNPA whom he described as a “good cop, tough and handsome.”
Claiming that the ICPS was able to arrest almost all of the most wanted persons in the city since he assumed office on September 8, 2004, Clet thanked the lady mayor, Congressman Felix Alfelor, city officials and the people of Iriga for their support to the local police.
Only recently, the ICPS hauled-off three alleged rape suspects including the No. 4 in the city’s list of 10 most wanted persons for allegedly molesting a 12-year old girl sometime in 2002.
Police authorities identified the suspects as Don Rombaon, Eric Benosa and Domingo Balbuena who are now detained at Iriga City District Jail in Brgy. La Purisima while awaiting trial.
Meanwhile, the ICPS remains facing a blank wall on the case of an alleged jueteng man who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen early last month.
