DAET, Camarines Norte – The National Food Authority (NFA) is constructing a P12M warehouse to provide more storerooms for its stocks.
Sitting on a 1,200 sq. meter lot, the warehouse when completed six months from now is expected to store up to 80,000 bags of rice, said NFA provincial manager Bernardo Asetre.
Meanwhile, Asetre belied reports that there had been “swapping” between inferior rice stocks owned by a Chinese rice trader identified as Yao and the rice stocks owned by NFA.
He said such irregularity would not happen due to the presence of NFA employees and security guards even if the warehouse being temporarily rented by the NFA is owned by the same Chinese businessman.
With the completion of the new warehouse, the government will save P60,000 monthly for the rental and P13,000 per month for the 3 warehouse guards. Francis Elevado
