CamNorte jueteng snobs ‘Mina’

DAET, Camarines Norte –- Correadors continued to collect jueteng bets in the provincial capitol here as supertyphoon Mina threatened the province.

The illegal numbers game had returned here even before the May elections but until now the PNP headed by P/Sr. Supt. Noel Constantino, provincial director, had not stopped it giving the impression that jueteng has the blessings of Camarines Norte Governor Jesus Typoco Jr.

According to a source, jueteng is thrice drawn in Talisay town governing the “Bicol Speaking Towns” under a certain Jessie Lao while the “Tagalog Speaking Towns” composed of six municipalities is operated by Ato Umali in the boundaries of Labo and Vinsons towns.

It is believed that the provincial director gets an “intelihensya” reaching P1 million a month while the governor, P1.5.

The same informant claimed that a TMG member with a rank of SPO3 acts as bagman for some mediamen and another only known as “Pedro” as a liaison man to silence elected officials from denouncing the numbers game.

Even the local media fail not to notice that Constantino hardly leaves his office at Camp Wenceslao Q. Vinzons Sr., for fear of issuing statements that may jeopardize the campaign of PNP Chief Avelino Razon Jr. against jeuteng.

In a related development, Heide Jovelo, married, and resident of Basud town, complained to Atty. Cesar Echano, legal counsel, CPU-MARINO Ombudsman that she was not given her winning for the November 19 draw by a jueteng collector.

Jovelo claimed that she placed a P600 bet on 37x4, “streamline” with Ningning Francisca M. Babagay.

When she learned that she won P18,000, she looked for Babagay only to be told that her bet was not entered by operator Boy Abanes which led to their confrontation. Jovelo was later promised payment on installment.
