2 Masbate councilmen nabbed in pot session

LEGAZPI CITY -- Police anti-narcotics agents nabbed Wednesday last week two city councilors allegedly engaged in a pot session inside an abandoned house in Masbate City.

Police identified the suspects as City Councilors Rodolfo Cortez III and Jesus De La Rosa who were allegedly in the act of sniffing Methamphetamine Hydrochloride, popularly known as “shabu”, when a police raiding team swooped down on an abandoned house in Masbate city.

Police Senior Supt. Eliciar Bron said a police crack team raided at about 9:30 p.m. last Nov. 21 an abandoned house at Danao St., after an informant reported to the police station that a shabu session was taking place there.

The raiding team led by Police Inspector Marcel Natural of the Masbate city also recovered from the scene several plastic sachets believed to contain the illegal drugs, crumpled aluminum foils, candles, five disposable lighters, scissors, and improvised tooters.

Bron said the raid actually caught three suspects but one managed to escape while the rest did not resist arrest.

The suspects are presently detained at the Masbate City jail, and police are preparing charges against the suspects for violation of the Comprehensive Anti-Drug Abuse Act.

Sources said Councilors Cortez and De La Rosa won the last election as Independent candidates, and are reportedly known to the public as anti-drug advocates. Cortez is the chairman of the city council’s ethics committee.
