Relevance of T.L.E. in RP’s economic situation

Aware that the Philippines belongs to the Third World countries despite of our rich in natural resources, we in the Department of Education should come up with a workable solution in order to ease the burden of poverty if not fully solve it. This is important since poverty oftentimes hinders a child from pursuing his education.

Technology and Livelihood Education (T.L.E.) has a big part in solving our economic problems. This subject equips the students with the necessary skills to face the real world. The skills that students develop in Agriculture, Industrial Arts, Home Economics, and Entrepreneurship give the assurance of earning a living even if they will not be able to pursue college education. Our students can be self-employed by practical application of their expertise, hence, the problem of unemployment decreases.

T.L.E. serves as a stepping stone of our labor force to be globally competitive. The trainings in T.L.E. guide the students in choosing what skills they would like to further develop if they want to work abroad.

Surveys showed that skilled Filipinos have a chance of having a better life and find job easier than those who graduated with any of the degree courses. This fact is a manifestation of the relevance of T.L.E. to our changing times. Of course, we should recognize the limitation of T.L.E. thus, our curriculum formulators should look into this matter like to make the trainings more intensive that the students will qualify for a TESDA certificate and to include other skills.
