CSur Dragon Boat shines anew in Malaysia race

THE CamSur Dragon Boat Team (CDBT), one of the seven teams carrying the Philippine flag, emerged the most competitive among the seven Filipino teams in the major event of the International Dragon Boat Federation World (IDFW) Championships placing second in the 2,000-meter-race, held from July 31 to August 3 at the Teluk Bahang Dam Regatta Course in Penang, Malaysia.

Being the only Filipino team that reached the final heat, the CBDT made outstanding performances among the 22 other competing countries where the local team also clinched third place in 500-m race and fourth place in the 200-m race.

At the final heat of the 2,000-m race, the toughest event of the tournament, the CBDT clocked 9 minutes and 42.51 seconds, coming in a little more than a second slower than the first-placer, the Moravian Dragons from the Czech Republic, that clocked the best time at 9 minutes 40.75 seconds.

The local boys started nicely in the 500-m race in the elimination and semi-final heats clinching the third place with a time clocked at 1 minute and 58.37 seconds, tagging behind its closest rival, both Czech teams, the Numburk and Moravian Dragons, that clocked 1 minute and 57.10 seconds and 1 minute and 58.17 seconds, respectively.

The CBDT earned its lowest performance in the 200-m race as it placed fourth in the final heat with a time clocked at 44.88 seconds; 1.17 seconds behind Moravian Dragons; 0.68 seconds behind Numburk Dragons; and only 22 seconds behind from third placer Rip the Fondue Team of Canada.
