LGU engineers gather for nat’l confab here

NAGA CITY --- Sharing of best practices, innovations and professional experiences as engineers of local government units highlight the on-going 7th national convention of the 1,647-strong City and Municipal Engineers Association of the Philippines, Inc. (CMEAP) that formally opened Wednesday, August 13, at Naga Regent Hotel here with local top executive officials of the city and province gracing the three-day assembly.

        Tigaon Municipal Engineer Romeo Bongulto, Jr. who heads the association in Camarines Sur said the convention will serve as a tool to strengthen the capabilities of the city and municipal engineers as partners of local government units.

        Underscoring this year’s convention theme, “Local Government Engineers: Unyielding and Steadfast to the development Goals of LGUs”, Bongulto said sharing and exchanging of new ideas and approaches on the performance of duties and responsibilities by LGU engineers will also take the center stage in the quest for excellent services.

        Apart from undertaking innovations in many aspects of their works, CMEAP National President Engr. Fernando de Guzman said the LGU engineers will actively participate in fora to address manifold of problems and challenges besetting the LGU engineering offices acros the nation.

        Leading today’s subject matter is the controversial implementing rules and regulation of the National Building Code of the Philippines which is currently heard at the Court of Appeals after a group of private engineers appealed a Regional Trial Court decision declaring practicing architects as the rightful signatories in Building/Architectural Plans.

        Showcasing the breakthroughs in different significant research with relation to engineering works will also be given a place in the convention, including the presentation of several technical papers featuring new building construction materials and equipment.
