Sabang, Naga City:
Most environment-friendly barangay

NAGA CITY – The Barangay Government of Sabang, this city, through its Committee on Environmental Protection & Restoration headed by Barangay Kagawad Guy Dela Cruz has conducted a grand launching and kick off activity of all barangay programs with environmental concerns last August 8, 2008, a rare date to be remembered as a milestone for dear Mother Earth.

Among the highlights of the activity were: “Lakaw Para ki Inang Kalikasan”; “Goto Para sa Nagralakaw” Btiwan Contest; deputation of the newly-organized Salbar Salog team by the City Mayor; and a mini exhibits of backyard garden and barangay nursery.

Participants were the students of Sabang Elementary School, Sabang National High School, Educare Centers 1 & 2 and Santa Rafaela Maria Elementary School; the active environmental organizations in the barangay: Rabuz organizations, Planters, Ladies in Green, the Ecokids & Ecorangers, Salbar-Salog Team, Dog-Pounding Team and Street Cleaners. Tilapia fingelings dispersal and seeds distribution were also conducted to top all other activities.

The grand launching and kick off activity was in simultaneous celebration of Barangay Sabang being declared by the city government as the city’s “Most Environment-Friendly Barangay by virtue of City Resolution No. 2008-274 adopted on July 22, 2008.

Residents here believe that the Barangay is not only after the pride and recognition. What the barangay is most after for, is that Sabang has spread awareness and set an example for other barangays to follow; and, as everyone believe, “We have to do it now and let us not defer or neglect doing our part, for we shall not pass this way again.”
