IRIGA CITY --- Proving once more that its unmatched caliber would place its opponents at the backseat, the UNEP Performing Arts Dance Troupe took home a grand slam win, besting other contenders in the recently concluded 5th Sta. Clara Devotional Dance Competition held in Tigaon, Camarines Sur over the weekend.
The UNEP Performing Arts Dance Troupe’s overwhelming victory came after being adjudged Best in Production Number, Best in Choreography, Best Choreographer and Best in Costume – eventually grabbing the top plum in the competition.
The 5th Sta. Clara Devotional Dance Competition was one of the highlights of Tigaon’s annual town fiesta held in honor of its patroness, St. Clare of Assisi. The various dance interpretations showcased the perpetual quest for good health, good fortune, prosperity, and an enduring devotion in honor of St. Clare. It was participated in by various schools, parishes and group of devotees under the stewardship of its Committee Chairman, Parochial Vicar Rev. Fr. Rory Lunario.
Atty. Remelisa Alfelor-Moraleda, UNEP President, said that it was the performers’ passion in creative arts that enthused them to give their best shot in every competition. “Here at UNEP, it had always been our aspiration to tap the potentials and skills of our students, honing them in the process, not only for self- realization but to make them a more productive member of our society.”
The UNEP Performing Arts Dance Troupe was organized in 1995 with the aim of enhancing the students’ artistic inclinations towards recreational and educational pursuit. This folkloric group’s repertoire includes rendition of Philippine Traditional dances and time-honored customs.
Backed by UNEP’s administration strong support and the able stewardship of Luisito P. Taduran, Performing Arts Director and Artistic Director for Dance, and Choreographer Romeo B. Abano, the UNEP Performing Arts Dance Troupe has undoubtedly become one of the finest performers in the region.
