ADNU’s Golden Cavalry blazes
new ground in cheer dancing

The Ateneo Golden Cavalry, Ateneo’s resident pep and cheer dance group, paved new grounds for cheer dancing in Bicol when they took part in the 2-day International Cheer Camp held at the Central Colleges of the Philippines in Cubao, Metro Manila last February 9 and 10, 2008. Jose Antonio Arevalo, Monalisa Barrameda, Jeam Benelyn Bernardo, Janel Bulao, Paulo dela Cruz, Roman Nolasco, Patrick Salazar and Marife Salva were the members of the group that took part in the event that was facilitated by National Cheering Championship (NCC) coach Mr. Joe Jackson. Coach Jackson flew straight from the United States to spearhead the conduct of the camp. More than 250 cheer dancers from Metro Manila and from nearby provinces participated in the camp. The trip was made possible through the assistance of the Ateneo Athletics Program as part of its campaign in promoting cheering as part of the sports culture of Bicol. Last January, Ateneo also held a 2-day cheer camp that was participated in by high school students from Naga and Legazpi. The Ateneo Athletics Program is hoping to collaborate with NCC Philippines by organizing another cheer camp in Naga or in Legazpi within the next few months.
