NCF campus writers win awards;
another student to represent Bicol
in national programming contest

ELEVEN students from the Basic Education Department of the Naga College Foundation garnered awards both in the division and regional levels during the Secondary Schools Press Conference held late last year. Winners in the regional level will now compete in the 2008 National Schools Press Conference to be held in Koronadal City in South Cotabato, from February 18-22, 2008.

        Led by their coach and adviser Joward Diocos of the BED faculty, the awardees were as follow: Ramon D. Maquilan, Jr. (Sports Writing – Filipino, 2nd place - Division & 3rd place - Regional); James Edward E. Albia (Editorial Cartooning - Filipino, 1st place); Angelica A. Asiao (News Writing – Filipino, 1st place); Kenneth C. Perez (Editorial Writing – Filipino, 2nd place); Dan Michael C. Baraquiel (Photojournalism - Filipino, 2nd place); Ervin B. Manalo (Copy Reading and Headline Writing, 3rd place); Krisha May H. Rustia (Editorial Cartooning, 5th place); Mae Angelique A. Cleofe (Feature Writing, 5th place); Kenneth Joseph Agajo (Photojournalism, 7th place); Sheena Sierra (Editorial Writing, 6th place); and Iris Loquinario (News Writing, 6th place).

        Meanwhile, Edgar Manuel Aureus, a 3rd Year Computer Studies student of the Naga College Foundation won the individual category in the first Bicol-wide Programming Contest held recently.

        Aureus bested 37 students from other schools in Bicol, such as AdeNU, UNC, and AMA, among others.

        The event was hosted by the Ateneo de Naga University in cooperation with the Philippine Society of Information Technology Educators – Region V.

        Aureus will be competing in the National Programming Challenge to be held at the De la Salle University in Canlubang in October 2008.
