P781 million infra projects up in Albay

LEGAZPI CITY -- Government engineers will pump prime some P781 million infrastructure projects to bring Albay in the mainstream of economic activity across the country by next year.

        Albay Gov. Joey Sarte Salceda, concurrent RDC chair, said the council has reviewed and endorsed the proposed infrastructure development plan of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) amounting to P4.2 billion of which a share of P781 million infra project would go to Albay.

        The P781 million DPWH infrastructure projects fund for 2009 include among others the construction of new and ongoing projects included are: P280 million foreign assisted road projects and P360 million local road projects; Bridges funded entirely from foreign assistance amounting to P41.8 million and P100 million for Flood control project.

        Road projects funded under foreign assistance from the Japan Bank of International Cooperation (JBIC) with P200 million for the Ligao PioDuran Road (5Km); Libon-Marocmoc-Pantao Road (5km); while the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) will finance 5 km Albay West Coast Road amounting to P80 million.

        For the locally funded road projects which would construct 33.5 km of roads in various towns in Albay amounting to P360 million.

        For the construction of 6 bridges totally financed by the United Kingdom and the Japanese government costing P41.8 million, the bridges are: Nagas bridge in Oas, Bascaran Bridge in Camalig, Sagumayon Bridge in this city, Misericordia Bridge 1 and 2 and San Fernando Bridge all in Sto Domingo town.

        The flood control project for the Yawa River system in this city will get P100 million funding.
