Governors issues support
behind GMA’s presidency

The League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP), showing solidarity in its ranks, had declared its unwavering and wholehearted support behind the leadership of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo “calling on all sectors to resist unconstitutional means to disrupt her socio-political and economic reforms that continue to uplift the quality of life of our people.”

This sentiment was embedded in a Manifesto of Support under G.A. Resolution 2008-001 that was unanimously approved by the convened governors on the motion of Davao del Norte Gov. Rodolfo del Rosario during the LPP 2nd General Assembly held last February 13, 2008 at the Villa del Rey, Capitol Complex, Cadlan, Pili, Camarines Sur.

Gov. LRay Villafuerte, national chairman of LPP and host of the assembly of governors presented the said manifesto upon the president’s arrival at the venue to address the body.

In detail, said manifesto of unqualified support to GMA’s presidency stressed, among others, the president’s tireless dedication and determined efforts to improve the quality of life of Filipinos focusing on her aim to achieve a more progressive Philippines along with her sound economic policies and strong leadership, the country had been enjoying unprecedented economic gains in the past 7 years.

This claim was further bolstered by the recent credit ratings granted the Philippines by Moody’s Investors Service that raised the country’s ratings from “stable” to “positive” and reaffirmed international business confidence in the nation.

The manifesto also stated that “the President deserves the gratitude and support of our people for tireless and determined efforts to improve the quality of life of our people thru strengthened local government units (LGUs), devolution and decentralization.”

The same document also pointed out that “the tyranny of imperial Manila does not reflect the sentiments of our people in the countryside.”

The league also urged that “calls on the political opposition to allow the present administration to finish its term and for them to wait for the 2010 presidential elections to present their own agenda and programs to our people.”

The Camarines Sur governor was satisfied that the assembly was deemed a resounding success with the biggest number of attendees -- 46 governors from all over the country - and left lasting impressions on the headways made by Gov. LRay in tourism and other related infrastructure. ADTuy/JMTSantelices
