Cam Sur intensifies sanitation
projects in the countryside

Pili, Camarines Sur -- Impoverished families in the towns of Caramoan, Garchitorena, Balatan, Bato, and Pasacao will benefit from another batch of WASH or Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Project to be implemented by the provincial government in partnership with the United Nations International Children Fund (UNICEF) which primarily aims to prevent the outbreak of waterborne diseases such as diarrhea and cholera in rural and far flung areas of the province.

Governor LRay Villafuerte has always placed a high premium in the prompt and quick delivery of basic health services to the constituents particularly those who have less in life because of his strong belief that a healthy constituency is crucial to his vision of prosperity and growth for the province.

The town of Caramoan will be a major benefactor of the project with 25 of its barangays as beneficiaries of some l, 342 toilet bowls. On the other hand, each recipient-household will shoulder the materials needed to install the toilet bowl such as l bag of cement, 1 pipe and the sand and gravel that abound in the area.

In the municipality of Garchitorena, 98 households in 4 poblacions will be recipients of 10 septic tanks and 98 toilet bowls. They include Poblacion I (3 septic tanks, 39 TBs), Poblacion II (3 septic tanks, 15 TBs), Poblacion III (6 TBs) and Poblacion IV (4 septic tanks, 38 TBs).

The Itulan relocation site in Pasacao and the Bato relocation area, both joint projects of the province and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) will also receive some 100 toilet bowls in each site under the WASH program.

Potable water has always been a concern in Cabungan, a mountain barangay in Balatan, hence, six Level II water pumps will be installed in the area that will provide clean and safe water to some 80 households.
