CamSur benifits from Japanese
cleaner production techniques

PILI, Camarines Sur -- The CamSur Water Sports Complex or most popularly known as CWC along with the Mansion Suites of the provincial government were among the enterprises in the province that will benefit from the project dubbed Green Framework of Innovative Strategy on Sustainable Consumption and Productivity or GFIS.

A collaborative effort of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the International Center for Technology Transfer (ICETT) of Japan, the innovative project actually adopts the Japanese concept which aims to promote environmental awareness through the implementation of cleaner production techniques that will result to maximized productivity and cost efficiency.

Governor LRay Villafuerte expressed elation over the choice of Bicol region, particularly Camarines Sur as pilot area of the GFIS project during the courtesy call of a visiting Japanese team from ICETT led by Hide Mashita and Masami Hayakawa accompanied by DOST officials and the Investment and Enterprise Development Center (IEDC) head, Fenina Boñaga late last year.

The governor pointed out the importance of the project as business enterprises should continually upgrade their operations for it would contribute immensely to improved services to clients.

The Industrial Technology Development Institute, a line agency of the DOST, through the Integrated Program on Cleaner Production Technologies (IPCT) is spearheading the initiative. Its tasks and responsibilities include conducting cleaner production assessment and monitoring activities, scanning, evaluating and verifying cleaner production technologies, encouraging research development activities on cleaner production technologies.

Assisting in the program is a team of trained assessors whose members come from the academe and their tasks include evaluating industrial and commercial facilities using cleaner production (CP) tools and worksheets, developing strategies in convincing top management of companies to adopt the CP program and perform monitoring of the progress of a CP program.
