Robredo bares threats vs
PSO men, city hall execs

NAGA CITY -- Alleging unidentified men were casing officials of the city hall and Public Safety Office (PSO), City Mayor Jesse M. Robredo asked the provincial police director here to detail six policemen at the City Hall Compound.

In a letter dated December 27, 2007, Robredo wrote Senior Supt. Romeo Tambungui that the policemen to be detailed at the city hall are meant “to beef up the security” of the main facility of the city government on the heels of the reported threat.

The mayor elaborated that officials of the PSO and the city hall were being shadowed by unidentified men aboard motorcycles and other vehicles.

He said that if the alleged incident of casing could be related to the Jollibee heist, the unidentified city officials under surveillance face “serious threat”.

Robredo added that the seriousness of the threats to the lives of officials of the PSO and city hall becomes real given “the capability and readiness of the men involved to kill people”.

The mayor was referring to the daring armed robbery with homicide that happened on Nov. 5 last year at the Jollibee Drive Thru in Panganiban Avenue here.

The robbers in broad daylight snatched from a roving Metrobank teller his moneybag containing P210,356.25 and shot to death a security escort named Rowwel Gavarra while seriously wounding another guard.

After a week, the PSO was able to identify the perpetrators when the cell phone left by the robbers was cracked, revealing identities of suspects from the uploaded photos and moving pictures stored therein.

Robredo also told Tambungui that Naga police chief Senior Supt. Macoy pulled out all the police detailed to the city hall detachment, including the security detail assigned to him.

The mayor said he would not have requested for assistance if not for the report of PSO Executive Director Lito Del Rosario.
