SORSOGON CITY -- Government prosecutors filed murder charge against an army intelligence agent who was tagged by witnesses as behind the killing of a peasant leader here last year.
Acting City Prosecutor Alma Zacarias identified the accused as Randy Ogad, a resident of Purok III, Mancruz, Daet, Camarines Norte, based on the documents filed by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and an enlisted personnel of the Philippine Army.
The case was filed based on the investigation conducted by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group which was able to establish the identity of the assailant in the killing of Willy Jeruz, a leader of the Samahang Magsasaka ng Sorsogon-Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (SAMASOR-KMP).
Jeruz, a nephew of the provincial chairman of SAMASOR-KMP Celestino Jeruz, was shot dead early morning of April 16, 2006 near his house at barangay San Juan-Roro here by a lone gunman.
His killing took place a week after an army intelligence officer and his driver were ambushed by suspected New People’s Army members a few distance away from Jeruz’s house.
Chief Inspector Nilo Berdin, CIDG provincial chief, said that aside from being positively identified by two witnesses in a police line-up Ogad was also tied to the case after the ownership of the motorcycle used in the killing was traced to the accused.
Berdin said the motorcycle bearing plate number EM 5718 was registered in Ogad’s name based on records from the Land Transportation Office which further bolstered the case against him.
The filing of the case against Ogad, however, did not appease the militant organizations in the province saying it only proved their firm belief that the government was behind the killings of militant leaders in the country.
Reynaldo Hababag, Bagong Alyansang Makabayan provincial coordinator, said that despite the filing of the charge in court they still did not consider the case as solved as the suspect was still not arrested.
Berdin said that aside from the Jeruz slay they had also solved the killing of former Municipal councilor max frivaldo in Irosin town wherein a former memberof the New People’s Army identified as Ronnie Lomerio was tagged as the perpetrator.
Frivaldo, also a leader of militant group in the province was shot dead inside his house January 30 last year.
Berdin said Lomerio was also identified as the killer of a certain SPO1 Melor, a member of the Pilar Municipal Police.
