Robredo at Naga Regent Hotel Convention Hall last July 18.

RICE HARVEST. Nabua (Camarines Sur) Mayor Fernando Simbulan (right) Regional Executive Director Jose V. Dayao (left) and Municipal Agriculturist Jesse Arnel Duran (partly hidden) visit the rice area of the town where most farmers immediately planted rice after the flooding. A total of 1,161 certified seeds were distributed to farmers in the municipality by the DA to rehabilitate areas affected by flooding during the early part of the year. The LGU of Nabua for its part extended fertilizer assistance. Already, 2,000 hectares have been harvested with 158 hectares more to be harvested.

Department of Agriculture USEC for Special Concerns Ber-nadette Romulo Puyat (left) visited Camarines Sur recently to formally launch the Gulayan Sa Sim-bahan Project that will benefit the poor folks in barangay Comadogcadog in the town of Del Gal lego. Also in photo is Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) head Josefa Panambo (extreme right) who was instructed by Governor LRay Villafuerte to provide the necessary technical assistance to the farmers involved in the project/ and Agriculture Program Coordinator Officer (APCO) Nena R. Adupe (center) of DA RFU5. The noble undertaking is a joint effort of the Sta. Rita de Casia Parish/ Department of Agriculture and the local government of Del Gallego.

BOOSTING HUMAN RESOURCE CAPABILITIES. Students are virtually spellbound as they attend the lecture of their sensei (Nihongo for teacher) Hatano Kaori, one of the three Japanese language instructors at the Japanese Language and Culture Center (JLCC) at the Provincial Capitol Complex. Now on its fourth year, the foreign language learning program given for free initiated by Governor LRay Villafuerte, one of several projects designed to develop and promote the skills and competitiveness of Camarines Sur constituents. The JLCC has produced close to 400 graduates, many of them landing gainful employment right in Japan, or hired by Japanese firms operating in the Philippines as well as non-Japanese companies doing business with Japanese principals. The youthful senator came as keynote speaker during the opening night of the Philippine Councilors League’s 3-day joint 1stst quarterly national executive officers and national board meeting held here July 18-20, 2008, with Naga City as host.
