Off the marks

I must confess I am an avid reader of the Bicol Mail, living true to its motto: “Bicolandia’s Only Regional Newspaper” and its praise “the best edited newspaper.”

Your June 5, 2008 editorial under the guise of a query: “Robredo’s Coliseum, a Squatter?,” I do believe, however, is off the mark. To set the facts in issue in the proper perspective, the coliseum referred to in your editorial is not “Robredo’s Coliseum” as it belongs to the citizens of Naga City, thus its rightful name, the Naga City Coliseum.

On the other hand, and contrary to the allusions made in your paper, the ownership of the property on which the coliseum is being constructed is never in question, nor the deed for its conveyance hidden. A simple inquiry with the Office of the Registry of Deeds, Naga City, would yield to the fact that the property in question is now covered under Transfer Certificate of Title No. 45576 in the name of the City Government of Naga, entered on December 29, 2003.

Corrollary, the allusion with respect to alleged parallelism vis-à-vis the conveyance of the subject property with that of celebrated “Mariano” case hurt the noble intentions for which the conveyance was made.

We do hope that this would clarify the instant issues.
