LEGAZPI CITY --— Five children were reported drowned during the observance of Holy Week in the provinces of Albay, Camarines Norte and Sorsogon, where the victims were on a picnic with their relatives, police said.
Senior Superintendent Eliciar Bron, Police Bicol spokesman, identified the victims as Carol Yanson of Barangay San Juan in Sto.Domingo, Albay who drowned on Easter Sunday; Francis Valles of Biñan, Laguna, who drowned while swimming with his cousin at Busig-on River in Barangay Gumamela in Labo town, Camarines Norte last Holy Friday; and Judilyn, 13; Clarise, 9 and seven-year-old Mark, all surnamed Fontellar, who drowned while having a picnic with their family in Barangay Buhang in Bulusan, Sorsogon on Holy Thursday.
Bron said the Fontellars were residents of Barangay Panghaluban in Barcelona, Sorsogon.
Police report said Carol Yanson died on arrival at the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital in this city while her sister Maria Karen is now recuperating at the same government hospital.
Valles’ body was recovered one hour later after he was reported lost at about 12:30 p.m. Holy Friday.
Bron said the police were still conducting investigation on the incidents.
