8 brand new Smart schools
turned over in Bicol towns

NAGA Central School I and Vinzons Pilot High School are SMART’s newest partners in the Bicol region under the Smart Schools Program (SSP).

Also recently included in the program are the Bicol Regional Science High School (BRSHS) based in Goa, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes National High School and Tabaco North Central School in Albay.

SMART Communications, Inc. has to date welcomed eight new public schools in Bicol into the program with a series of turnovers of their Smart Teachers Learning Resource Centers.

Launched in 2004, SSP is SMART’s community service initiative that promotes Information and Communications Technology in basic education through partnerships with public high schools, its officials and parents-teachers-community associations (PTCAs).

Specifically, it aims to provide public school teachers with Internet access through the PLDT group’s wide range of communications solutions, access to online content and teacher training.

It is implemented through the Philippine Business for Social Progress, with the support of the Department of Education, Microsoft’s Partners in Learning Program and Learn.ph Foundation.

As of this period, SMART has 150 public high schools and 30 elementary schools partners nationwide, of which 11 are located in the Bicol region.
