TYPHOON-PROOF SHELTERS FOR THE HOMELESS. 41 typhoon-proof shelters were turned over to residents of Barangay San Vicente (Gorong-gorong) in Nabua, Camarines Sur built through the concerted efforts of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), International Organization for Migration (IOM), Save the Children (SC) and the Provincial Government of Camarines Sur. Construction tools and basic household supplies were also distributed to the lucky residents who were displaced by Typhoon Reming in November 2006. For its part, the provincial government of Camarines Sur under the proactive leadership of Gov. LRay Villafuerte provided the site for the worthwhile project. Shown in the upper photo is the make-shift stage where the ceremonial turn-over was done which was attended by Gov. LRay Villafuerte, Nabua Mayor Ferdinand Simbulan and representatives from USAID, IOM and SC. Lower left photo is a model of the concrete typhoon-proof house while another photo shows a kid holding a container of safe drinking water that was part of the supplies given to them.
