New Casureco II board to revisit ‘gains’

NAGA CITY --- Board President Zosimo Sañado and five other directors of Camarines Sur II Electric Cooperative (Casureco II) promised to ascertain whether the institutional, financial and technical gains obtained by the coop were for real.

This, after Sañado himself has found out that the power firm collects only more or less P112 million in monthly power bills, contrary to P160 million reported earlier in Bicol Mail.

This paper also realized that among the reasons why monthly power bills of member-consumers have reduced by more or less P300 per month are certain deductions in the actual charges that allowed them to pay lesser amount.

Casureco II officials claimed during the Annual General Membership Assembly (AGMA) in Pili town last October 25 that the reduction in the amount of monthly power consumption was an offshoot of their massive campaign for a lower systems loss.

This paper’s October 23 issue quoted a document saying that the institutional, financial, and technical gains of Casureco II were the result of the board’s resolve to better manage the power coop.

The deductions, placed at P100 per month, were reflected in the bill’s generation and adjustment charges. They were made possible with the implemen-tation of the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA) of 2001.

Other charges like the ones imposed by National Electrification Administration and other government agencies were assumed by Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management (PSALM).

The newly installed board president also expressed doubt on the claim by previous board leadership on coop’s Category B status, as he vowed to conduct thorough inquiry to determine the real standing of the power coop.

Sañado also said that the board is now establishing a working facility to repair the highly factionalized Casureco II whose infightings have been wreaking damages to the operations and institutional image of the coop.
