LEGAZPI CITY --- Some P69,000 worth of uncertified products and defective weighing scales confiscated from various commercial establishments in the city and Albay province were destroyed Wednesday last week by Department of Trade and Industry provincial office here.
DTI Albay Provincial Director Rodrigo Aguilar said the confiscated products did not bear either the Product Standard (PS) or the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) markings required for products to be sold in the market.
Aguilar said the uncertified products confiscated included, among others, steel bars, G.I. wires, Christmas lights, and lighters which were trampled on and destroyed by a road roller at the Landco Business Center here.
The eight establishments found selling uncertified products and using defective weighing scales were charged and fined for violating the product standard act, Aguilar said.
The heightened move against uncertified products and defective weighing scales by the DTI and local government unit operatives highlighted the observance of Consumer Welfare Month in October.
Observance of consumer month is aimed at educating and encouraging the various sectors of the community to join hands in curtailing the proliferation of fake and substandard products with the conduct of Consumerism Seminars and Advocacy Caravan on Product Standards. MSArguelles, PIA Albay
