All roads lead to Naga for BSP jamboree

NAGA CITY --- All roads lead to the 21-hectare Pacia estate in Bgy. Carolina at the foot of scenic Mt. Isarog, some 15 kilometers from the city’s business center, as some 6,000 to 7,000 scouters from all over Bicol and contingents from key cities and provinces in Southern Tagalog and Metro Manila converge for the six-day 7th Bicol Regional Jamborette that the city government and the Boy Scouts of the Philippines Naga City Chapter are jointly hosting.

Opening day will be ushered in by a parade in the morning of Saturday, Nov. 22, around the city’s business district for a brief welcome ceremony at Plaza Quezon here. Assembly area will be Panganiban Avenue which will be temporarily closed to traffic for at least one hour during that time and day before the start of the parade.

City Mayor and Camp Chief Jesse M. Robredo will formally welcome the delegations while Boy Scouts of the Philippines National President and Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay will officially open the regional jamborette after his brief message.

The opening program will follow late in the afternoon at the campsite which is adjacent to the Penafrancia Resort, also within the Pacia estate, in Bgy. Carolina wherein sub-camps, a grand arena, activity centers, exhibit areas, medical corps, observation tower, obstacle courses, market and food stalls, and other camping facilities have been set up. Among the highlight activities are the treks to Malabsay Falls, Panicuason mini-hydro and hot spring, and Camp One of the lush Mt. Isarog Natural Park.

Ramon Florendo, event coordinator, said that the scout contingents which had confirmed attendance did not include the parents of the young scouters who are expected to go along with their participating children.

The parents, however, according to Florendo, will have to find their own rooms in private hotels downtown at their own expense.

Naga City Police Director P/SSupt Jose Edwin Nemenzo assured appropriate security and traffic measures have been laid out which involve augmentation forces from the PNP Regional Command and the Philippine Army to back up the local police and public safety office personnel and barangay tanods.
