2nd Tata Flores Cup all set

THE 2nd Manuel “Tata” Flores Basketball Cup will kick off on October 28 with twelve teams from eleven schools in Naga City participatinTg.

        Games will be played from October to December 2008 at the Naga City Gymnasium and at the covered courts of Ateneo de Naga University.

        The schools that are expected to participate are: (College/HS Division) Mariners Polytechnic Colleges Foundation-Baras, Ateneo de Naga Team B, Camarines Sur National High School, Ateneo de Naga High School, Systems Technology Institute (STI), Philippine Computer Foundation College, Computer Communication Development Institute, Mariners Polytechnic Colleges Foundation-Panganiban; (Elementary) Naga Parochial School, St. Joseph School, Arborvitae Plains Montessori, Inc. and Naga City Montessori.

        The Ateneo Athletics Office is spearheading the event in cooperation with the Coaches’ Commission of Region 5 and the City Government of Naga. Commissioners for the tournament are Mr. Francis Barja (College/HS Division) and Coach Noli Ayo (Elementary Division). The games will kick off on October 28 and November 8 for College/HS and Elementary divisions respectively.

        Tata Flores was a former city councilor of Naga City whose selfless contribution to the promotion and development of basketball in the city during the 80’s and 90’s paved the way for the flourishing of many good basketball players in Naga. He was considered to have provided opportunities for many basketball aficionados in Naga to play the game. His untimely death in 2005 was considered a big loss to the sporting community of Naga.
