Archdiocese marks feast of Principal Patron, St. Peter Baptist, on Sunday
The Feast of St. Peter Baptist, the Principal Patron of the Archdiocese of Caceres, will be celebrated on February 7, 2010, Sunday.
This, the reminder issued by the Archdiocesan Chancellor Rev. Fr. Allan Roy E. Remo on Monday, February 1, through a bulletin sent to all priests, deacons and religious groups.
Fr. Remo stated in the bulletin that on Sunday, February 7, 2010, the Liturgy that is proper to St. Peter Baptist and the Liturgy of the Hours and the Office of Readings proper to the said Principal Patron are to be used.
With the bulletin is the prayer to St. Peter Baptist which may be recited on that day after the Post Communion Prayer and also the short write up on the life of the saint which you may use in your homilies.
Peter Baptist was born in Spain in the year 1542. After the completion of his studies and ordination to the priesthood, he set out for the Orient to preach the Gospel.
For many years he worked in the Philippine Islands. He founded the towns of Pakil, and Longos in the Province of Laguna; Cagsawa, and Oas in the province of Albay; and Quipayo, Baao, Libmanan and Buhi in the province of Camarines Sur.
In the year 1593 he was sent with five other friars to Japan where he labored zealously converting many to the faith, building churches and a hospital. Due to the rise of religious and political controversies in the region, Peter Baptist’s apostolic activities were interrupted and he was arrested.
Amidst the jeers of the populace he was taken to Nagasaki where he and his companions together with the three members of the Society of Jesus and fifteen Franciscan Tertiaries were executed by crucifixion. They achieved the glory on martyrdom on February 5, 1597.

Caceres youth sends participants to Taize pilgrimage of trust gab
From February 3 (Wednesday) to February 7 ( Sunday), several thousand young adults of different denominations will gather in Manila, from the Philippines, from Asia and from the other continents for what is labeled “Taize pilgrimage of trust”.
The gathering will provide an avenue for young people to share their joys and open new paths of hope together, for the deepening of their faith and commitment in the Church and in the society and in their search for truth and for living in the spirit of Christ with young people.
The 20 participants of the Caceres Youth and Campus Ministry (CYCM), headed by Fr. Rex Hidalgo, were warmly welcome and received by the Parish of Our Lady of the Immaculate Concepcion, Tayuman, Tondo, Manila, with Msgr. Claro Matt Garcia, the parish priest. From there they will go to the families, “foster homes”, where they will be staying throughout the meeting. Welcome centres, numbering 77, including Catholic parishes and some non-Catholic parishes, will take part.
A group of students coming from Universidad de Sta Isabel and University of Nueva Caceres are participating in this youth gathering.
Each morning begins with a 7:30 Morning Prayer in the parishes. The prayer is followed by small group meetings, with themes based on the “Letter from China” by Brother Alois and published during the recent pilgrimage of trust meeting in Poznan, Poland. Around 10.00 am, everyone departs for Don Bosco Technical Institute, Makati, for lunch, mid day prayer at 1:00 p.m., the afternoon activities, supper, and evening prayer at 7:00 pp.m. Each day, Brother Alois will give a meditation during one of the prayers.
While the Thursday afternoon reflection is devoted to “Letting Christ send us out to transmit his love” and Saturday afternoon to “discovering local initiatives in order to continue the ‘pilgrimage of trust’ after returning home”, Friday afternoon is given over to a wide choice of theme workshops: “Listening to the God who speaks, Listening as God listens: reflection led by Bishop Antonio Tagle from the Philippines”; “Seeing Christ in the stranger… Stories and experiences shared by a priest involved in refugee work”; “Dialogue of life between people of different religions: a road to peace. Young Christians and Muslims from Mindanao share their hope”; “God is at work in us – how to discover his call? Reflection and discussion led by a brother of Taizé”.
On Sunday, 7 February 2010, Cardinal G. Rosales, Archbishop of Manila, will preside at the Eucharistic Celebration. The meeting in the Philippines has been prepared in close collaboration with the ECY-NSYA Episcopal Commission on Youth - National Secretariat for Youth Apostolate.
