Robredo, Cory speakers at
Makati Business Club


NAGA City Mayor Jesse M. Robredo will join prominent leaders and personalities that include former President Corazon C. Aquino as speakers in the “Citizens Against Corruption Conference” on September 21 at the Rizal Ballroom of the Makati Shangri-La Hotel.

The prestigious Makati Business Club has sponsored the conference in response to an urgent call for good governance and the campaign against bureaucratic corruption as keys to addressing the economic and social problems besetting the nation.

Robredo whose exemplary leadership has earned for Naga its distinction as a model city for government procurement will speak on Naga City’s initiatives in minimizing corruption at the local level.

The mayor confirmed his attendance to the Makati forum even as he expects to be home by that date from Barcelona, Spain where he was invited one of the speakers in the first Universal Forum, dubbed as “Barcelona 2004”. The world forum is being participated in by 48 countries from across the globe and hundreds of other NGOs and private institutions which are gathered to exchange ideas on culture and governance to promote world understanding.

In the Makati conference, Robredo’s speech will immediately come after the keynote address by former Pres. Aquino, the latter to speak on the citizens’ role in fighting graft and corruption.

Other speakers lined-up for the highly-charged conference are: Ombudsman Simeon V. Marcelo; DepEd Undersecretary Juan Miguel M. Luz; Pura Sumanuil, chair of the Concerned Citizens of Abra for Good Governance; BIR Commissioner Guillermo L. Parayno,and; fellow Nagueño Juan Mayo M. Ragragio who is an associate dean of the Ateneo de Manila School of Government.

Still, on Sept. 29, Mayor Robredo will deliver his address and local governance presentation during the 41st annual conference of the Personnel Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) at CAP-John Hay Trade and Cultural Center in Baguio City.

Some 1,150 participants from all over the country representing the best minds and gurus in human resource, business, education, labor and youth are expected to attend this annual gathering.

Other speakers lined up for the Baguio conference are MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando, DSWD Secretary Dinky Soliman, Professor Randy David and singer-artists Jim Paredes.
